OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT STATEMENT
December 19, 2018
Due to confusing misinformation that is currently circulating with regards to the need of an Invitation Letter to visit the Galápagos Islands, it is our duty to clarify that:
DO NOT NEED AN INVITATION LETTER
All national and foreign tourists that visit the Islands exclusively for tourism purposes DO NOT NEED an invitation letter, as long as they stay in authorized hotels, lodging establishments duly registered with the Ministry of Tourism.
All temporary and permanent residents, wanting to lodge friends and family in their private homes, DO NEED to extend an invitation letter through the form found on the Consejo de Gobierno de Galápagos website. It is a simple procedure and it takes no longer than 5 minutes on the internet.
These regulations and controls benefit Galapagos tourism as they seek to enhance the tourists’ security and to prevent inadequate practices by unlicensed suppliers or individuals. They are meant to improve the visitor’s full enjoyment of the wonders of Galapagos and the services provided by certified operators and establishments.
IMPORTANT: All these requisites will not only help with an effective migratory control, but they will contribute to the conservation of the Galapagos Islands. We need a direct intervention from all social groups to protect the ecosystems.
